St Sidwells Point Leisure Centre

Exeter

Make By Design were awarded the contract to design, manufacture and install the specialist joinery package for a new leisure centre at St Sidwells Point, Exeter.

Working with our valued client Kier Construction over a 16 week design and build programme, Make  By Design designed, manufactured and installed the following items of joinery:

  • Curved reception desk with oak worktops and specialist render coat system to front and integrated LED lighting.

  • Curved Spa Reception Counter manufactured from fluted solid oak finishes to front

  • Curved  Spa Juice Counter manufactured from fluted solid oak finishes to front

  • New Spa Treatment Room cabinetry complete with oak cladding and mirrors to front doors and rear walls.

Various finishes were specified throughout the scheme along with a huge amount of hardwood European oak for the fluted counters and worktops. The particular challenge we faced on this project was the requirement for the project to fulfil it's Passivhaus requirements. All materials within the project required to be of zero added formaldehyde, resulting in the exclusion of nearly all typical building products used typically in counter construction such as MDFs, and melamine faced chipboards. The cabinetry on this project was exclusively manufactured from oak veneered blockboard and sealed with a OSMO gold tinted lacquer.

Despite many challenges of working during the  COVID19 global pandemic, works were completed on time in January 2022.
