Appointed by main contractor Willmott Dixon Construction, Make By Design secured the bespoke joinery works to the new centre for digital media programmes including film, animation and photography.

The three story building forms the first phase of a masterplan for the redevelopment of the campus, which will include a second arts building, central landscaped square and the refurbishment of existing space.

UWE’s Bower Ashton Studios is situated in close proximity to Bristol’s Ashton Court Estate which comprises a grade 1 listed mansion, listed landscape grounds and deer park and the new building is situated in a prominent position on the approach to the Estate.

Works at the new campus included:

• Supply and fit of birch plywood stairwell cladding, fire treated (in house) with black shadow gaps

• Supply and fit of birch plywood corridor cladding, fire treated (in house) with black shadow gaps

• Supply and fit of acoustic arts studio with acoustic wall paneling and powder coated black mild steel mesh

• Design, manufacture and install plywood and valchromat reception counter

• Design, manufacture and install valchromat loans bench

• Design, manufacture and install valchromat and powder coated mild steel stair bench

• Supply and fit HPL laminate worktops with solid oak edging, all manufactured at our in house workshop

• Supply and fit of acoustic ceiling baffles
